Description:

Tod Browning's 1932 film Freaks follows the story of Hans, a circus dwarf, who is courted by a beautiful but conniving trapeze artist, Cleopatra, who plans to marry him for his inheritance. When Hans's fellow performers—real-life sideshow artists with various disabilities—discover Cleopatra's plot to murder him and steal his fortune, they band together to exact a brutal revenge against her and her lover, the strongman Hercules. The film explores themes of societal cruelty, solidarity, and asks who the real "freaks" are, ultimately revealing the normal characters' true monstrosity.
