Description:

The fifth Indiana Jones film (2023, PG-13) is a powerhouse action thriller with wild plot twists and plenty of humor, a welcome return to form after 2008’s dire Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Harrison Ford may be in his early ‘80s, but he’s still got the craggy intensity that makes his best-known character so compelling. Indy is older, living semi-retired in Manhattan in 1969 and trying to cope with a world that seems to have left him behind. But the tentacles of an all-too-familiar evil return in the form of an old rival seeking to claim a powerful ancient artifact—the Dial of Destiny (based loosely on a mysterious real-life artifact called the Antikythera mechanism, discovered on an ancient Greek shipwreck in 1901). With the help of his archaeologist goddaughter Helena (a wisecracking Phoebe Waller-Bridge), Indy must don his hat and grab his whip once more, heading out on a globe-trotting chase to make sure the Dial of Destiny doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. Director James Mangold ends the series on a high note with this rousing and heartwarming adventure.
