Description:

Bruce Lee, born Lee Jun-Fan in 1940, grew up in Hong Kong where he studied martial arts and was introduced to the film industry. As a teenager he got into increasingly violent street fights, which led his parents to send him to America to finish high school. In Seattle, and later Oakland and Los Angeles, Bruce started teaching his own idiosyncratic approach to karate and kung fu, incorporating influences from boxing and Buddhism. He rose through the martial arts tournament scene and in 1966 found his first acting success as the sidekick Kato on the television series The Green Hornet Show (retitled The Kato Show when re-broadcast back in Hong Kong). Dissatisfied with minor acting roles and Asian stereotypes, he moved back to Hong Kong in the early 1970s, where he starred in a series of hugely influential martial arts films that made him the first globally successful Asian action hero. Bruce died in 1973 from a cerebral edema at age 32, the cause of which is still debated. In Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993, PG-13) Jason Scott Lee (no relation) gives an impassioned portrayal of a young fighter forced to confront pervasive racism as he struggles to achieve his vision.
