Description:

Glory Road (2006, PG) is the true story of the 1966 Texas Western Miners college basketball team and their young coach Don Haskins, who took them all the way to victory in the NCAA finals with the first-ever all-black lineup to play in the conference. Haskins started with seven black players and five white players of varying skill levels, and forged them into an unstoppable strategic (as well as flamboyant) force. As they racked up victories, their preponderance of black players drew racist taunts and the ire of other teams and their fans. In the finals, Haskins decided to start five black players against the all-white University of Kentucky lineup, a heavily favored legacy team with a seasoned coach – as Haskins said at the time, not in order to make a civil rights statement, but because they were his five best players. The Miners’ thrilling victory against the Wildcats helped racially integrate NCAA sports and open up new opportunities for black athletes.
