Description:

In Preston Sturges’ classic comedy Sullivan’s Travels (1941), Sullivan (Joel McCrea) is a successful but naive Hollywood director who wants to film an ambitious masterpiece about the struggles of the downtrodden poor, to be titled “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”. Unfortunately, Sullivan himself has never known anything but luxury and ease. To the chagrin of his producers, he decides to don ragged clothes and hit the road without a dime in order to experience hardship for himself. He finds more trouble than he bargained for, as well as befriending a struggling actress (Veronica Lake). After ensnaring himself in one wild debacle after another, Sullivan is hit on the head and mugged by a fellow tramp and winds up a prisoner on a chain gang, where he learns the real value of cinematic entertainment as he tries to get back to his former life. Hilarious screwball comedy with an unvarnished social critique.
