Description:
Room 8 was a neighborhood cat who, in 1952, wandered into room 8, the 6th grade classroom at Elysian Heights Elementary School in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The cat became a fixture of the school, attracting international attention when he was featured in the November 20, 1962, issue of Look Magazine, which included images taken by Los Angeles photographer Richard Hewett, whose image archive is now part of the Los Angeles Public Library.
Join us for a screening of the documentary Room 8, directed by Scott Mabbutt, who will also be in discussion with Brenda Rees, author of the new book Room 8: A Cat in the Classroom, published by Photo Friends.
