  • 8/3: Night of the Lepus – Followed by a talk with Shannen Robson
  • 8/10: Frogs – Followed by a talk with Nefti Camacho
  • 8/17: Bug – Followed by a talk with Lisa Gonzalez

About the speakers:

Neftali Camacho, aka Nefty, is Collection Manager of Herpetology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. He received his B.S. in Zoology from California State University, Pomona in 2002. That same year, he started working at the museum as a curatorial assistant. In 2010, he became the Collection Manager of Herpetology. His daily routines involve entering specimen database records, processing specimen loans, and preserving and integrating specimens into the museum collection. As a hobby, he keeps reptiles/tarantulas as pets and is a HUGE fan of horror and sci-fi films.

Lisa Gonzalez is currently the Program Manager of Invertebrates, overseeing the Butterfly Pavilion, Spider Pavilion, Bugtopia, and the Nature Lab's living invertebrate displays. For 10 years, she was the Associate Collections Manager for the NHM BioSCAN Project, the largest urban insect biodiversity survey of its kind. Her insect macro photography is featured in the NHMLA exhibit "Spiky, Hairy, Shiny: Insects of L.A.," as well as the Bugtopia exhibit. Lisa first started as a volunteer at the Insect Zoo in 1999. She loves to share her passion for insects and spiders with Museum visitors, particularly highlighting the surprising insect diversity found right here in Los Angeles.

Shannen Robson (she/her) is the Collections Manager for Mammalogy at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHMLAC) and has been a museum collections professional for over 25 years. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Utah, where her research focused on the evolution of great apes, including humans. In addition to working at NHMLAC, Shannen also teaches online courses in primatology and museum studies at Eastern Oregon University.
