One of the cutest and zaniest movies of the ‘80s, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985, rated PG) unleashes Paul Reubens’ eccentric man-child character on an interstate hunt for his stolen bicycle. It was the first feature film directed by Tim Burton, and it fizzes with his kitschy style and wild art direction. Pee-Wee will stop at nothing to regain his beloved red bicycle, following up a tip to the basement of the Alamo and then hitchhiking on through the southwest, tangling with bikers, truckers, ex-cons and rodeo cowboys along the way. He wins them all over with his kooky charm, finally making it to the West Coast where he spots his bicycle onscreen in a Hollywood film production.
